Let's Etch Some Brass!!

Ah the new year is here. I was finally able to get my first video of the year out this week. The beginning of the year has been pretty busy "Knock on Wood".

I took some time to handle a few things on a long list of "To Do's" I had around the house. Part of my New Year's Resolutions were to get that list knocked down.

Now that I have a good chunk of that list knocked out. I can get back into the shop and focus on what I enjoy most, creating.

As I promised it was a video tutorial on how to Etch a Brass Plate

I took it a step further and built a brass plaque with a decorative stand. The Sign's plaque was made from walnut and the signs base was made with Walnut and Oak.

This method uses the chemical Ferric Chloride to etch your design into a solid brass plate. Typically the brass plate's thickness is .032 of an inch. The thickness is important since some of the metal will be etched away.

This video shows you the steps to make a brass sign, from the design to the final step
